General Information

LUTON OPEN 2 — Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championship

Date: 17 January 2026

Venue: Venue 360, 20 Gipsy Lane, Luton, LU1 3JH

Join us at a modern, well-located leisure centre just off the M1 J10 and a 5-minute walk from Luton Airport Parkway (rail). Venue 360 has an on-site bar/restaurant serving hot food and drinks, and there’s a large retail park opposite for anything you need on the way home.

Who can compete

Open to all belts and all age groups — Kids, Juvenile, Adult, and Masters — in both Gi and No-Gi.

Officials & Safety

We run with an experienced, IBJJF-qualified refereeing team and a fully qualified first aider with BJJ competition experience.

Rules, Uniform & Format

  • Ruleset: All divisions follow the IBJJF rulebook.
  • Uniform: IBJJF standards apply. Any Gi or rashguard colour is accepted. Gi jacket and trousers must match in colour.
  • Match time: No match shorter than 3 minutes for the youngest kids.
  • Bronze fight: There is a bronze medal match.
  • Two fights where possible: We will do everything in our power to provide at least two matches (unless an athlete is alone in their category and no suitable merge is available). In that case, you may accept the gold medal or a voucher towards the next event.

Entries & Weigh-in

  • To enter Absolute, you must also be registered in your weight division.
  • Please ensure your weight, age, and experience level are correct when registering. Incorrect details can delay the event and may lead to disqualification.
  • Weigh-in (Gi divisions): One weigh-in only, wearing your Gi.
  • Weigh-in policy: 0 kg allowance. Failure to make weight may result in disqualification. If this happens, please speak to an organiser — we’ll do our best to help with options where possible.
  • This event welcomes UK and international competitors. All teams are welcome.

Divisions & Medals

  • Medals awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

    Under 39.50 kg
    39.50 kg and above

    Open weight for White, Blue, Purple, and combined Brown/Black.

Cash-Prize Categories (Gi & No-Gi)

  • Two cash-prize divisions: Gi and No-Gi (Adults).
  • Prize pool: £500 total shared across 1st / 2nd / 3rd as follows:
    1st: £250
    2nd: £150
    3rd: £100

  • 1st: £250
  • 2nd: £150
  • 3rd: £100
  • Format: Adult belts, Gi & No-Gi black belt rules apply for the prize categories.
  • Minimum entries: If we do not reach 20 competitors in a prize category, the distribution is:
    1st: Full pot from Super Fight registrations
    2nd: Raine rashguard
    3rd: Free entry to the next competition

  • Over 18s only. We reserve the right to cancel a cash-prize category if entries are insufficient.

Schedule (Subject to change — follow Smoothcomp on the day)

  • 09:00 — Weigh-ins open
  • 10:00 — First matches
  • Keep checking your bracket page on Smoothcomp; times update in real time.

Arrival & Call-ups

  • Arrive at least 60 minutes before your bracket start.
  • Athletes can be called up to 30 minutes before the estimated start.
  • A no-show after 3 calls leads to immediate disqualification.
  • Please weigh in ~45 minutes before your division and remain in the bullpen 30 minutes before start time.
  • Your mat and match number may be updated to keep the event on time — keep refreshing Smoothcomp.

Registration, Changes & Refunds

  • Registration closes when capacity is reached (or by the closing date shown on Smoothcomp).
  • You can edit your registration in your Smoothcomp account until the change deadline shown on the event page.
  • Event organisers may merge divisions to facilitate matches; athletes may also request their own move via Smoothcomp.
  • Refunds/Credits: A 100% refund is available until the medal order date shown on Smoothcomp. After medals are ordered, no refunds are issued (please see our Refund/Credit Policy on the event page for details).
  • If you are alone in a division, we will email you regarding possible merges.

Team Awards & Coach Passes

  • Team trophies for the top three teams (1st, 2nd, 3rd) based on medal rankings.
  • Coach passes:
    Head Coach Pass available if your academy has 10+ athletes competing.
    Otherwise, you may apply for a Coach Pass.

Etiquette & Conduct

We uphold a respect-first environment for athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators.

  • Zero tolerance for inappropriate behaviour (swearing, gestures, aggression). A verbal warning may be issued; a second incident will result in removal from the venue.
  • Please support athletes positively and show courtesy to opponents, referees, and staff.
  • Significant misconduct can result in disqualification and/or a ban from future events.

Media

A professional photographer and videographer will cover the event. Downloads are free of charge after the competition.

Spectators

  • Adults: £10
  • Kids under 15 & the adult guardian of an under-18 competitor: £5
