General information:
LUTON OPEN is being held on August 2nd, 2025 at a well-located modern leisure centre Venue 360, just around the corner from the motorway M1 junction 10 and a 5-minute walk from Luton Airport Railway Station. There is a bar/restaurant inside the venue serving hot food and drinks, so all athletes and spectators can have a little retreat. There is a big retail park opposite the leisure centre if you are interested in doing some shopping for your journey back home.
This event will be open to all belts from kids, juvenile, adult and master levels, Gi and No Gi.
We will have a fully qualified first-aider, experienced in providing assistance to BJJ competitions and a top quality team of international level qualified referees.
Rules, unifrom & format:
All divisions will be performed under the IBJJF ruleset. link: Books and Videos | IBJJF
All uniforms will be accepted under the IBJJF standards, apart from the uniform colours, any Gi or rash guard colour will be accepted, the top and bottom of the GI must be same colour. link: Uniform | IBJJF
The organizers will do everything in their power to provide at least 2 fights guaranteed!!! (if possible, unless you are alone in your category and there is no appropriate match for you, you can either take the gold medal or get a voucher for the next competition), there will be no shorter fight than 3 min for the youngest kids and there will be a bronze medal fight.
Entries:
To enter into the Absolute division, you will have to first register in your weight division.
During your application, please be sure to enter the correct weight, age and experience level. If incorrect details are entered, this can cause us unnecessary delays on the day if we need to correct them and could result in disqualification.
* The weigh-in for Gi divisions is to be done once only and whilst wearing your Gi.*
This competition will be open to all, national and international competitors. All teams are
welcome!
Medals will be offered to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

Open weight on White / Blue / Purple / mix Brown and Black
Athletes are only required to weigh in once before competing. There is a 0 weight allowance on the scale failing to make weight may result in a disqualification, however if this happens, approach any of the organisers and they may be able to help you with different options. we are here to help!
*CASH PRIZE CATEGORY, a share of £500 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place
This is available for all adult belts using the black belt No Gi rules.

Prize Distribution (if we don’t reach 20 competitors): 1st place – Wins the full pot from the Super Fight registration. 2nd place – Receives a Raine rash guard. 3rd place – Gets free entry to the next competition.
Over 18’s only! We reserve the right to cancel the cash prize category, if we have not enough entrants.

Registration is open until 26/07/2025 (or when capacity is reached). Please read our Refund/ Credit Policy page for details on cancellations. A 100% refund will be given if you cancel before 02/06/2025. After this date, MEDALS will be ordered so no refunds will be given.
You can make changes to your registration via your smoothcomp account until Saturday 26th July 2025. Event organisers may make changes to your division but it is the athlete’s responsibility to move divisions if they wish. Instructions on how to make changes are here https://support.smoothcomp.com/article/89-how-to-change-weightclass-or-cancel We will email every competitor alone in the division to inform them about merging categories.
Team trophies will be given to the top three teams based on medal rankings (1st, 2nd and 3rd place)
After Brackets are Published, no alterations will be made.
If at least 10 athletes participate, from your academy, you can apply for a HEAD COACH PASS. If there are fewer than 10 athletes from your academy, you can apply for a COACH PASS. Please email lutonopenbjj@gmail.com to order one, without the coach pass you will not be allowed inside the barriers.
Make sure to get to the event at least 60 minutes prior to your bracket schedule. Athletes can be called 30 minutes before the estimated start of the division, a no-show after 3 calls will lead to immediate disqualification.
Please weigh in around 45 minutes before the start of your division and remain in the bullpen at least 30 min before the estimated start of the division.
Keep refreshing Smoothcomp at all the times. Times are dynamic and change in real time. Your match number and mat are subject to change by organisers to keep time on schedule.
Luton Open Etiquette:
At our competitions we strive to maintain the RESPECT RULE first and foremost.
We take a zero tolerance policy to inappropriate behavior by coaches, parents/guardians, spectators and competitors. Any spectators that we deem to be displaying inappropriate behavior (swearing, gesturing, violence) will firstly be given a verbal warning and if there is a second instance, they will be asked to leave.
We ask all attendees to our competitions to show a certain degree of restraint when supporting their students or team mates and show a decent level of courtesy to the opposing fighter, referees and staff.
Any participant (or supporter of a participant) whose behaviour falls below the standards of good sportsmanship that we expect can, at the discretion of the referee/organizers be disqualified from the event or asked to leave. Significant infringements can lead to a banning from all future events.
There will be a professional photographer and videographer on the day and will be free of charge to download after the event.
