BJJ Globetrotters Austria Camp 2026

Austria

About This Event

For this summer camp, we’re heading to beautiful Wagrain for five days of training among the rolling hillsides that are now brilliantly green and ready for you to explore. It is our only family-friendly camp of the year and we will have lots of Jiu Jitsu and activities for all ages!

"We have been to a lot of places in a lot of holidays as a family but this was the first time our girls were able to instantly have friends. At that moment it dawned on me that this might be the best holiday we have ever had. Disneyland is overrated."

LOCATION For the past years we’ve been making regular pilgrimages to the ski slopes of Wagrain for our annual Winter Camp. Doing a camp there at height of summer was supposed to be a one-off but seven years later we’re still loving it! It’s a beautiful time of year where this quaint mountain village of 3000 people and the surrounding alpine landscape open up into a vast wonderland of bike trails, hiking paths, and sparkling lakes.

Wagrain is easily reachable by train or car from Salzburg or Munich airport, and features an incredible range of summer activities in addition to the five days of BJJ lessons, open mats, and workshops we’ve got lined up in our own private hotel.

"A most surprising and amazing experience visiting Austria in the summer. Small town full of friendly people just 10 mins walk and friends made that will last a life time. Not only with the the amazing instructors leave a lasting impression but the views will take your breath away."

ACCOMMODATION & FOOD The camp venue is “Wiederkehr”, a hotel located about a 10-min walk from the centre of Wagrain. We have the entire building to ourselves, so there’ll be plenty of space for all of us. You can choose between staying in a 6 bed shared room or in one of our few double rooms in case you’d like some more privacy after all the rolling and biking/hiking/swimming.

This is a very family-friendly location, and children of all ages are welcome. Families will be given private rooms with their own bathroom and shower, and there’ll be one kids’ class and one open mat play-time (all ages) on the schedule each day.

Food is served three times a day and is included in the price of the camp. There’s also a 24-hour free fruit and (non-alcoholic) beverages bar that you’re welcome to use as much as you like, day or night. And if you need anything else in between meals, there’s a small supermarket just a one-minute walk from the house.

For couples and participants not bringing their families, we have plenty of adults-only and some private double rooms available.

"I remember having a conversation with Christian and a few others about family camp and I said it was something I had no interest in attending due to the fact I didn’t want to deal with kids running around the whole time. Anyways, an opportunity came up and I ended up going to Austria summer camp, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was my best overall camp experience out of the 8 that I have been to. Austria camp was my 3rd time at this venue, and it was such a great experience to visit in the summer. As always, the training opportunities were fantastic and even family friendly. Despite my original advocacy against having children at camp, my opinion was changed and I think the family aspect even enhanced my camp experience."

BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU TRAINING The hotel has a small sports area where we’ll be laying down mats and running classes (both gi and no-gi) for adults and children, every day of the camp. These are all taught by a variety of highly experienced instructors who bring their own perspective on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, sometimes incorporating concepts from other grappling arts such as wrestling, Judo and Luta Livre. We’ll also schedule daily open mat sessions at which you can roll, drill technique or just chat with the instructors and pick their brains.

All of our camps are renowned for their open and welcoming atmosphere. They’re full of enthusiastic, friendly people from all around the world, who enjoy training in a fun, relaxed, and open-minded environment. So regardless of whether you’re there with a group or travelling solo, you’ll always find someone to slap hands with.

BEGINNERS WELCOME! BJJ Globetrotters is built on a foundation of treating everyone equally, both on and off the mats. We understand that signing up for a week-long training camp as a beginner in the sport can be a very intimidating thought. People often ask us if they are even allowed to join as beginners or if they would somehow be a burden to the instructors or other participants. However, there is absolutely nothing to worry about. We are most happy to have beginners of all levels join us, both for the training and social aspects of the camps.

At many of the camps, we even host a “White Belt Appreciation Hour,” which is a closed event where white belts can have “alone time” with the black belt coaches and ask all the beginner questions they might have.

So, if you’re still inexperienced in BJJ and on the edge about coming, just do it! We’ve all started where you are now, and one day you’ll probably be able to beat us, so we better be nice to you now .

"I’ve done a bunch of these camps, large and small, and honestly I won’t take any other kind of vacations anymore. Christian has an exceptional talent for creating an amazing atmosphere; it’s way more than just the Jiu Jitsu – the camps become this instantly tight-knit community of practitioners and you end up finding a ton of other like-minded people right away, on and off the mats. You want to train hard? No problem. You want to take it easy one day and then go out and sample the local beers? Easy."

GARDEN BBQ PARTY On the final evening of the camp, we’ll fire up the barbecue in the garden and take in the beautiful views around the hotel one last time. We’ll provide a few hundred sausages (vegan ones as well) and there’ll be plenty of couches, chairs, and Weissbier for a nice, social evening before we all have to check out the next morning.

OTHER ACTIVITES Wagrain is right on the doorstep of the largest national park in Austria, the 1856 km2 Nationalpark Hohe Tauern, and is an ideal starting point for you to jump onto dozens of potential hiking trails of varying length and difficulty. The spectacular mountain scenery stretches far off into the distance in every direction; just pick one and you’ll find yourself weaving through a fairytale landscape of lakes, meadows, and wooden huts. The largest lake, the Jägersee, is only 15 minutes away by car, and there you can either relax with a beer on the shore or hire a rowboat and spend a few hours drifting leisurely under a clear alpine sky.

The vast array of slopes around Wagrain make it paradise for mountain biking. Bike Welt Wagrain has 9km of trails featuring jumps, tables, and banked turns, and is easily reachable with the Flying Mozart lift (10-minute walk from the hotel). If you’re in the mood for something a bit easier on the bones, there’s a dense network of cycle trails in the countryside around the village, and plenty of places where you can rent bikes and e-bikes.

As well as all that, you’ve got climbing, ziplines, soccer golf, paragliding (Wagrain is one of the finest destinations for it in Austria), and fishing right on your doorstep. If you ever want to keep things nice and relaxed after a particularly strenuous open mat, just grab a rod and enjoy the picturesque scenery and the soothing silence.

FREE ADMISSION TO NEXT DOOR WATER PARK Included in the camp price, is free, daily admission to the swimming pool part of the next door Wasserwelt Amadé, only two minutes walk from our hotel. Apart from the indoor- and outdoor swimming pool, this place is also a large wellness center with many different saunas, steam baths, guided infusion sessions and fresh-air terraces. Admission to the sauna area is around €5.

This is the perfect place to relax after a long day of hiking or Jiu Jitsu!

OUR CAMP APP All camp participants will have access to our custom-built BJJ Globetrotters camp app. It serves as the central hub for communication and organization before, during, and after each camp.

Chat with fellow campers and staff Browse the camp schedule, save your favorite sessions, and stay updated Coordinate rides and plan your travel with ease Introduce yourself and get to know other participants Access support and contact info for the camp staff Browse the FAQ for quick answers Plan meetups, share photos, and keep track of your training statistics Sign up for camp activities, events, and dinners Built specifically for BJJ Globetrotters camps, the app is your go-to tool for staying informed and making the most of your camp experience.

We created this app so you don’t have to rely on big social media platforms during camp. Focus more on the camp experience and less on cat videos!

MORNING YOGA Regardless of the color of the belt around your waist, so many hours on the mats is tough on the body! In order to keep us as limber and loose right until the end, we’re bringing back our instructor to run morning yoga sessions every day of the camp.

BRING YOUR FAMILY Austria Camp 2019 was the first family-friendly camp we’ve ever held and it was a huge success. We’ll ensure that families get their own private room (with bathroom and shower) in the hotel, and we’re specifically tailoring the camp schedule so that kids can participate in their own dedicated BJJ class and hour of open mat play-time (all ages) each day.

Playground, football field and table tennis table directly at the hotel Unlimited, free access to the water park right next door, featuring slides, pools and a large outdoor playground Huge outdoor play area for kids (Geisterberg), accessible by lift from Alpendorf (20-min drive away) Alpine roller coaster Lucky Flitzer in Flachau (15-min drive away) Great selection of hikes and playgrounds reachable by Grafenberg lift (only a few minutes away)

Please note that our minimum age required to participate in the camp without an adult is still 18 years of age, as usual.

"According to my kids this was the best vacation ever (and we’ve been on some awesome adventures before). I can only agree. The company, the scenary, the spirit of it all that I could let my kids experience an learn from. Priceless. I wish all my bjj friends with kids could have the same experience."

KIDS’ CLASSES For the kids of the camp, there’ll be one morning BJJ class and one evening open mat free-play hour (all ages) every day in the schedule. To keep our adult classes focused and quiet, kids will not be allowed in the training hall outside of the kids’ hours.

KIDS’ MOVIE NIGHT We will set up a movie night one of the evenings for the kids in our conference room. Parents and other campers are welcome to come watch the cartoons too, of course!

KIDS’ DISCO NIGHT One of the highlights of the week is always our kids’ disco night, where we transform one of the basement rooms in the hotel to a full on dance club for the little ones at camp. We have lasers, fog machines, DJ, games and lots of fun. Guaranteed the kids sleep well after this!
