Ocean BJJ Pro Championship Expands Across Europe With 2026 Trial Series

The European trial series will run from February through July 2026, with events scheduled in multiple cities including Milan, Warsaw, London, Paris, Barcelona, and Rome. Each trial will produce winners who earn a place at the Ocean BJJ Pro Championship Final, set for 19 September 2026 during BJJ Summer Week in Cagliari, Italy.
A Pan-European Qualification Path
By spreading the trials across Europe, Ocean aims to remove geographical barriers that previously limited participation. Rather than requiring athletes to travel long distances to Italy, competitors can now enter trials closer to home while still competing for a place on an international stage.
At each trial, one winner per division will qualify directly for the final. Athletes who do not qualify at one event are free to enter other trials within the series, allowing multiple opportunities to reach the September finale.
Ruleset and Competitive Format
Ocean BJJ Pro Championship is a No-Gi tournament organised by Unione Italiana Jiu Jitsu, featuring a bespoke ruleset designed to encourage active grappling and technical engagement. Competitors from various grappling disciplines are invited to participate, including athletes with backgrounds in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling, judo, and sambo.
The ruleset prioritises submission attempts, positional control, and match activity, while allowing a wide range of techniques commonly seen in high-level professional grappling. Cash prizes are awarded at the final, reinforcing Ocean’s goal of supporting the continued professionalisation of the sport.
Cash Prizes and Final Event
The Ocean BJJ Pro Championship Final will feature a cash prize structure that scales with total athlete participation across the trials. Category winners at the September final will compete for prize pools reaching up to €10,000 per division, with additional bonus prizes awarded for achievements such as best submission, best throw, and most submissions across the entire series.
The final will be held as a single-night event in Cagliari, bringing together qualified athletes from across Europe alongside invited competitors to ensure strong and competitive brackets.
European Trial Schedule Highlights
The 2026 Ocean trial calendar includes events in multiple European countries, with confirmed dates such as Milan, Naples, Warsaw, London, Paris, Barcelona, Rome, and several Italian open tournaments that also serve as trial opportunities. This structure positions Ocean as one of the few European competition formats offering a clear, season-long pathway toward a high-stakes professional final.
