Ffion Davies bounces back at UFC BJJ 9 with armbar win over Amanda Bruse
Welsh ADCC champion Ffion Davies, widely considered the most accomplished European grappler in history, returned to winning ways at UFC BJJ 9 on June 4, 2026, finishing Amanda Bruse with an armbar in the first round of their bantamweight match at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas. The win comes after Davies dropped a close title match against Cassia Moura at UFC BJJ 6 in March.

The match

Bruse opened with aggression, launching into a triangle choke that looked dangerous enough to threaten an upset. Davies stayed composed, worked her way out before the position could be locked in tight, and reset.

From there she took over. Davies passed to back mount and stayed glued to it, threatening multiple rear naked choke attempts as Bruse defended her neck. When the choke didn't materialise, she transitioned smoothly to an armbar, isolated the arm, and forced the tap.

On the card

UFC BJJ 9 was headlined by Mason Fowler's light heavyweight title defence against Devhonte Johnson, with Gilbert Burns making his UFC BJJ debut in the co-main event after stepping away from MMA. Davies and Bruse had met once before, in 2023, when Davies took a 21-point decision win at black belt. With Bruse having developed since then and Davies competing less frequently, the rematch was billed as closer on paper. It ended with Davies showing she still finishes top-level matches when it counts.
